Celebrating Organic Month at Terranova Coffee Company
Sep 07, 2026
September is Organic Month, and it feels like the perfect time to talk about something that has become an important part of who we are at Terranova Coffee Company, our commitment to certified organic coffee.
Organized by the Organic Trade Association, Organic Month celebrates organic agriculture and the farmers, suppliers, businesses, and customers who support it. It also helps people better understand what the USDA Organic seal means and what goes into earning the right to use it.
For us, it comes down to caring about everything that goes into every cup.
Great coffee does not happen by accident. It begins with good partners and thoughtfully sourced beans, followed by careful roasting and attention to detail at every step. That is why organic has become our standard.
It Starts with the Beans
We could not do this work alone. Our commitment begins with Royal Coffee, our supplier of organic green coffee.
Royal helps us find the quality organic beans we need to create coffee our customers can count on, roast after roast. Starting with well-sourced, consistent organic green coffee allows our roasting team to focus on bringing out the flavors that make each coffee special.
Royal also began as a family-owned company, which is something we appreciate. We share a belief in strong relationships, accountability, and taking a long-term approach to business. To us, those values matter just as much as what ultimately ends up in the bag.
What CCOF Certification Means
Once the green beans arrive at Terranova, it becomes our responsibility to protect their organic integrity throughout the rest of the process.
That is where CCOF comes in. CCOF is a USDA-accredited organic certifier that verifies that businesses like ours are following USDA Organic standards.
Being certified organic involves much more than using organic beans. It includes inspections, detailed recordkeeping, approved processes, and specific procedures for how we receive, store, roast, and package our organic coffee.
Royal helps us begin with properly sourced organic beans. Our team carefully handles and roasts them here in Sacramento. CCOF verifies that we are following the standards required to protect their organic integrity along the way.
Why Organic Matters to Our Family
As a family-owned company, the choices we make at Terranova are personal. Our name is on every bag we roast, and we want to feel proud of the coffee we share with our customers, our wholesale partners, and our own family and friends.
Choosing organic reflects the kind of business we want Terranova to be—one built on care, responsibility, strong relationships, and doing things the right way, even when it requires more time and attention. Our certification gives us a meaningful standard to uphold and gives the people who choose our coffee confidence in the way it has been sourced, handled, and roasted.
Organic Month gives us a special opportunity to talk about that commitment, but it is not something we think about only in September. It is part of the decisions we make every day, from the partners we work with to the way our team handles every batch of coffee that comes through our roastery.
From the people who source our green beans to our roasting team here in Sacramento—and all the way to the customers brewing Terranova at home or serving it in their businesses—it takes a community of people who care to make a truly great cup of coffee.
For our family, that is what organic represents: caring about the process, taking responsibility for our part in it, and creating coffee we are proud to put the Terranova name on.
Here’s to celebrating Organic Month, one thoughtfully made cup at a time.
